Saying "Hi" to Dad Today

Last summer my Dad went to Heaven. It was a long sad journey that my family took with him.. He had been sick for a long time - the benefits of being a life long smoker.. Cancer, heart disease, and lung disease. In the end, his poor body was just too tired to keep going.
Today is Father's Day and my mom and my two daughters went to the cemetery to say hi to dad and to give him some flowers.... In many ways it seems like he just left us and in many ways it feels like it's been a long time. I truly do not believe that one ever gets over the loss of a parent... there is that hole in your heart that just won't close... that is just sad...
So today - I told my dad - "Happy Father's Day" today he is celebrating with his Father and his father... He is in his new perfect and healthy body.... he is standing in the Son....

  1. I'm sorry. I did not know that about your dad. Both of my parents have passed away. I did notice your dad was with the Navy. Thank you to you and your family for the sacrifices you made so we could live free.

  2. I didn't know you lost your Dad last year. Those firsts after that are hard. I remember my first Mothers Day after my Mom passed. I loved what you said though - "He is with his Father and his father"!

  3. I'm so sorry for the void in your heart in the loss of your Dad Kelly.
Your post refines the blessings I have with my father even more. We have almost lost him several times this year...and your words remind me that each moment from here on in is an added blessing.
    Thank you.

  6. So sorry for your loss. It's so important to keep up these rituals of visiting with the younger generation though. Beautiful song too.

  10. I haven't lost either of my parents, but some close friends have, and I agree--I don't think you can ever fully get over it. I'm glad that knowing he is happy, in a better place, gives you solace.
