Lessons Learned

I believe one of the most difficult things about being a parent is watching your kid feel pain... The kind of pain that could have been avoided if she had just listened to me... Had taken the wisdom that I had to offer.... But like most kids - my daughter did not listen... and went and did it her way...

I know that a big part of the growing process is making mistakes... I know that is the best way to learn... I know that in my head... But my heart is hurting for my little girl...

  1. This is definitely something I am NOT looking forward to, but I know it is a reality I'm going to have to face. Praying for you and your daughter.

  2. It's so hard to see your kid hurt, even when it's because they didn't follow your advice. I'm sure she will learn from this, but in the meantime everyone hurts.

  3. Kelly,

Some of these most painful lessons are the ones they will learn the most from. Lord, knows we as parents learn from our own difficulties when we don't follow through with something God has asked of us. At this point, we can only be there to love and comfort!

  5. Kelly I am so glad I found your blog.....my son is your daughters age and It could have been him on the other end....although, I am hoping thus far he respects girls, and their feelings. He has told me he is not going to go out with a girl just to go out with her...he is really going to like her. He has told me boys talk poorly of girls and what they want from them...he is not impressed by this. In fact he has a stalker girl that is a pretty little thing, and he wants no part of her....she is too aggressive he said LOL!!~ I am wishing YOu and your daughter the best, and it will be a lesson learned, always. I love that new Carrie Underwood song, thanks for sharing that too:) Debbie You and her sound like you have an awesome relationship, that is half the battle!

  6. I agree with Kelly - sometimes they will have to learn the painful way.

Hugs to you and your daughter.

  7. I know what you are going through! I call it the 'stupid mom' stage. This is where we are just mom and don't know anything in their eyes. It will last for a while but it does get better. Though the hurt will always hurt you just as bad as it hurts them, sometimes more...

  10. You obviously understand how it works. Even though it hurts you, it's how our children learn. Heaven knows how many times I should have listened to my parents. And how many times my children should have listened. Hang in there mom.

  11. My heart goes out to you. That has to be the hardest part - trying to stand by and be strong for both of you when all you want to do is sit and cry with her, but you're right, she needs her own mistakes to build her own her own experience. Someday you'll both look back and smile and realize you both grew that day.
