My Mom's Wish...

Today I went to lunch with my mom - We were talking about my girls - and I made the comment that teenage girls are tough.. the attitude.. the mood swings... the drama....

And my mom - bless her.... said "I know - remember - my curse wish for you? That you have a daughter just like you! Well there you go - You got two"

  1. I thought all moms said that! :-) My mom got her wish, but something must've gotten screwed up somewhere because I also seem to have a little one that reminds me of my younger sister, and I don't know if I can handle that!!

  2. I always thought I'd get payback for my own teenage self too. Why must we?

  3. Kelly, I have no doubt that despite what you think, you're doing amazing with your girls. This is just such an amazing, wonderful, frustrating, curious, exhilarating, exhausting time in all of your lives but I know, that I know, that I know, the Lord is WITH you through it all.

  4. I mom had five girls . . . You are lucky your mom just wished on like you on you. My mom hoped that I would have a dozen just like me.

    She thrives on hyperbole.

  5. My mom had 3 boys, and two twin girls - me and my sis.. I wish for you, as a mom, the best joys and the best hard times, because in those hard times ' now " comes bigger laughs in the furture when you and your girls chickle at how exasperating you all were to each other, lol.. You are a blessing to your daughters, as I know you would be in realtime, my friend..

  9. Sounds like your mom and my mom are alike, she said the same thing to me. I've never said it to my sons, but have thought it!!

  10. My mom doesn't say that, but she says, "A son is a son till he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life." I think I hung up on her. Why would she wish that all my sons would grow up and not want to be a part of my life?

I am a firm believer in speaking blessings not curses on those we love! There's a reason why some of children are born with amazing self-control and why some have to learn amazing self control. I always thought it was because maybe God called them to weightier challenges that required the discipline to make yourself do something and sometimes that's only learned through the conscious effort of controlling yourself.

There's a beautiful, positive side to every personality of your children. I keep telling myself that daily, sometimes secondly because it is challenging.

Just think, God sent you that beautiful girl to raise becaue He knew you had it in you to be the mom she needs you to be!

  12. Hi Kelly,

Thank-you for stopping by my journal.
As a mother of two adult daughters, one with a teenager...I often have a chuckle when I hear her utter words of frustrations and all that goes with teen life...
I tell friends IF you can survive the teen years, those girls or boys often turn out to be your best friends.

    Blessings,

    ALBERTA Lori (holidaying in AZ)
