We planned on heading up to our cabin in the mountains on Wednesday (12/22) but Southern California decided to have the storm of storms that day... and several days before... The forecast for that particular Wednesday was very high winds and blizzard conditions in the mountains... I am a white knuckle passenger when the roads are perfect so you can understand that this Wednesday drive was Not an option.... So we went up on Thursday.... God had favor on me - somehow - the roads were clear (except for the summit) and no chains were needed... But we did have some fun fog.....
The drive was beautiful with all the snow covered trees..
After we unpacked all our stuff it was time for dinner... We decided to go out to our favorite little hole in the wall for the best chicken fried steak (outside of my kitchen) dinner..
The next day we went into Big Bear's little town... Such a pretty day...
We then decided to go up to the ski resort... There were NO LINES.. We could not believe it - Very bummed that we did not bring the girls' snowboards... Next time we will be prepared..
We went by the golf course and the zoo...
On the way back to the cabin we took a drive around the lake and drooled over the cabins and their views.... Some day...
We made in back to the cabin and Dusty (the hubby) made us a cozy fire and I made hot cocoa with marshmallows of course...
The next morning was Christmas - we woke up to filled stockings and Dusty's famous French toast made from hamburger buns (we forgot the bread at home).. They turned out yummy...
After our Christmas morning celebration it was time to head down the mountain to have dinner at my sister's house... On the way - we stopped by the cemetery and wished my dad a Merry Christmas....
My sister made the best turkey I have ever had and I don't like turkey... I had two servings... I need to find out what she did! My brother in law played some Christmas tunes and the cousins posed for their annual Christmas picture...
How was your Christmas?
happy new year!

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
It's nice to have a break though it was cold up on the mountains, the memories are truly warm! Nice shots! Happy New Year to you and God bless.
ReplyDeleteFunny how I just don't picture there being snow in Southern California but your pictures prove me wrong. Funny thing is how you all are dressed like the snow is nothing: no heavy coats, boots, gloves, hats, etc. Just what you would wear any other fall day...
ReplyDeleteVery brave of you to drive thru snow laden roads, I would have had the wheel death grip. Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were wondering about your drive to your cabin! I've been to Big Bear but have no memories of it. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas! Our's was great!
